I run the installer, it goes through the extract and then...nothing. Doesn't launch anything, no error messages. Am I missing something obvious?

Hi Kippax,
The usual cause of this problem is that you do not have the latest JRE installed. You can get the latest JRE from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp. If this doesn't fix your problem let us know.

I am running the latest JRE but find that the installation fails on my Windows 7 X64 system. Is is possible to download a version that I can simply install into a folder?

Hi David,
Can you tell us more about what part of the installation fails on Windows 7?
I'm not sure what you mean by installing Wabit into a folder but there is the generic OS version of Wabit that you can download. The generic version of Wabit can be extracted and run without actually installing Wabit.

HI Thomas,
It unzips OK to the folder I selected, but it appears that the next screen is hardcoded for a folder name that does not apply on 64 bit systems and so I get no content in the screen. Maybe the need is to make the installaton folder a variable, or maybe enable the 64 bit properties of components that assemble content. I got it running by creating my own shortcut and Start entry, so it is only the installer that seems to fail. This should be easy to fix.
Regrads, David

Hi David,
We have been able to successfully reproduce your issue on a local copy of Windows 7. I have added bug 2089 to track this issue. We plan to fix this before the next release of one of our products.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Thomas

I just committed a fix into the 0.9.8 development branch. I'll also backport it into the 0.9.7 branch so that you can test it with a more stable branch.
I've successfully tested it on a 64-bit Java Runtime on Windows 7 RC 64-bit, and on a 32-bit Java Runtime on Windows 7 32-bit.

HI Jeff,
I am glad I was able to help. Windows 7 looks like a "keeper". Vista was good to pass over, so maybe every second Windows OS is the way to go.
I will be happy to continue testing when I see updated code.
Regards
David
