Hi Rincewind,

I'm not exactly sure why certain data types are not (yet) supported. But thats why the feature to create more data types was designed.

If there is a need for a data type that is not in the list of over 30 supported types a user can create the type. In earlier versions there was no way of using a type that wasn't in the list.

Many users will also find it helpful to preset several options including precision, NULL/NOT NULL ...

Hi,

I just tested it with on my installation.

If you use the type "Numeric" and compare the source with the model using the English descriptions SQL Power Architect actually shows a difference. but if you use the SQL output you Power Architect recognizes that "Numeric" equals number in Oracle.

I will report the issue with the English descriptions to our developers. In the meantime you can just use the SQL output.

Thanks,
Benjamin
Hi Ricardo,

thanks for posting here. What version of Power*Architect are you using? The community edition or the Enterprise trial edition? You might want to use the enterprise trial if your company is thinking about buying the software.

Is that a way to tell to SPA don't generate "ALTER TABLEs" for PRIMARY KEY and other constraints?

I don't know of any options to exclude primary keys from the alter table statements. You could edit the SQL statement before executing against the database and remove unwanted ALTER TABLE statements.

Is that a way to generate the DDL script in SQL Server dialect in cases exposed like the one exposed?

Yes you can do that. When you use the compare model feature you have a select box where you can select the SQL dialect you want.

Hope this helps,
Benjamin
Hi,

which version of Power Architect are you using?

I believe you can select "Numeric" this will forward engineer it to Number in Oracle.

Thanks,
Benjamin
Hi,

which version of Power Architect are you using? Power Architect Enterprise Edition allows you to create your own data types. You can download the trial version to try it out.

Hi,

I just installed a fresh installation of Wabit and I created some quick & dirty screenshots to show how you can create server workspaces. It works fine on my Windows 7 and I use the downloaded Wabit server "as is" without any changes to the configuration, it is installed on my local machine.

1. Start Wabit server
2. Start Wabit Client
3. Go to File-> Log Into Wabit Server -> configure server connections
4. Click on "Add" and setup a connection similar to the one in the screenshot: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/F_e-aP2DBiiaavvV1sZBGQ?feat=directlink , default password is admin
5. Click on test connection and then on ok/save
6. Add a new workspace as in the screenshot: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/66JFg919VonITARok5x4qQ?feat=directlink
7. Rename the workspace (right click on "New Workspace"): http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Qr7HaAKperAIrFBktP456Q?feat=directlink
8. Add the demo connection to the workspace, create a query and a report out of it. It will look like this: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/PxYNCI7k-AoOlj93UuSJ_A?feat=directlink
9. Go back to the Wabit server at: http://localhost:8080/wabit-enterprise/static/thin-client/index.html, sign is as admin, You should see something similar to this: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Jkev4dNpEMWuDFuBiqTnKg?feat=directlink

Hope this is detailed enough and will help.

Thanks,
Benjamin
Hi,

you can't see the download link when you register? I just tried it and it works fine for me. You go on http://www.sqlpower.ca/page/architect_download and then either go to the download page of the Enterprise Trial or the Community Edition (at the bottom of the page).

Hi Dennis,

currently there is no way of shorten a a table in the playpen. You will always see all columns in the playpen. In future releases there might be an option to hide some or all of the columns of a column in the playpen.

Benjamin
Hi,

which version of Power Architect are you using? Would you be able to add a screenshot of the errors or maybe even the model you are working with?

Thanks,
Benjamin
Hi,

Wabit comes with a short user manual. When you close all workspaces you see the screen with big icons to create a new workspace, open a workspace and so on. In the left lower corner is the link to the manual.

To publish the cube to the server you have to do the following steps:

- Start Wabit server
- Start Wabit Client
- Create the server connection
- Connect to the server
- Create a new server workspace (don't use the system workspace with the users and groups)
- Create a new relational db connection (see manual)
- Create a new OLAP connection (see manual)
- Create a new OLAP query in the server workspace (see manual)
- In the browser go to the wabit server page (link is something like http://localhost:8080/wabit-enterprise/static/thin-client/index.html
- Sign in as admin (can be a different user once you have users/permissions setup). In the left hand tree you should see the server.
- Select the workspace you created, open the OLAP query you created
- You should see the data from your cube

Let me know if you have any luck with it
Hi Joe,

when you use the Wabit client and connect to the server, one or more workspaces should open in the left hand tree. One of them is the system workspace. The system workspace only contains users & groups you cannot add a database connection to this workspace, that might of been the error message you saw.

You can create a new workspace where you can add data sources and create reports when you click on the Button "New", select "New Server Workspace" and select the server you want to create the workspace on. The new workspace will be created and you can start working on it.

Please let me know if this solves the problem for you. Also any feedback on how we can improve Wabit is very welcome.

Thanks,
Benjamin
Hi,

which exact version of Power*Architect are you using? Which JDBC drivers for the DB are you using?

Thanks,
Benjamin
Maybe, the date of the post of the original post is from 2009-01-04". You have the latest version.
I believe Power Architect open source version doesn't support database specific column types. But there is a preview of the enterprise version where you can create your own column types. You can download the evaluation version.

Benjamin
Hi,

can you give us some more information like:
- What database are you connection to?
- What version of Wabit are you using?

Thanks,
Benjamin
