Hey gmayer,

Thanks for pointing out the bugs. The saving bug at least should be fixed in the latest nightly build.

Hi natalia,

Thanks for trying out the Power*Architect!

I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'm assuming you mean how to create the table/relationship diagram from an existing database. (We call this 'reverse-engineering' the database) If that's the case, you can refer to my response to the following post. It should explain all the steps you need. http://www.sqlpower.ca/forum/posts/list/1672.page

If that doesn't help, you can also refer to our User Guide:
http://power-architect.googlecode.com/files/PowerArchitectUserGuide-0.9.7.pdf

If you're still stuck, please let us know in detail what you're trying to do with the Power*Architect, and what you were expecting to see.
Hi lezagreu,

Thanks for trying out the Power*Architect! It's good to see that you were able to fix your own problem

However, I am a bit concerned as to how your pl.ini file got corrupted in the first place. Did you do any manual editing of the pl.ini file at all?
Good news!

We added the feature of being able to add and remove database types through the GUI in Power*Architect 0.9.7, which you can download here

In the User Preferences->JDBC Drivers tab, you can now add and remove database types, so you no longer have to manually edit your pl.ini file.

The new release of Power*Architect (0.9.7) is out, which should fix this bug. Sorry for the wait!

Hey everyone!

We've just released Power*Architect 0.9.7! This release fixes a number
of major bugs, so everybody should upgrade as soon as possible.

Major changes include:

*Fixed a bug with handling of automatic cascading primary keys in
multi-level
identifying relationships.
*Fixed a bug which was causing the Architect to save corrupt project
files.
This bug was triggered by adding and removing a column from the
primary key.
*Further enhanced the profile manager so it is possible to run
profiles
multiple times per session.
*Made it possible to add new database connection types from within the
GUI.
*Corrected the JDBC URL template for IBM DB2. If upgrading, to obtain
this fix,
you have to remove the DB2 database type from the user preferences
dialog,
then restart the Architect.
*Corrected an error in the user guide relating to the creation of FK
relationships.
*And more!

You can download the latest release here:
http://download.sqlpower.ca/architect/current.html

Enjoy!

Jeff
Hi Juan,

I agree that would be a useful feature to have. I've added it as a enhancement request for the next release in Bugzilla.

Hi altos,

Thanks for trying out Power*Architect!

When you add the source database connection, the tables will not show up automatically in the main window area (or the playpen, as we call it).

When you first add the database connection, it will appear on the leftmost part of the window, called the Database Tree. Double click on the connection name to get a list of schemas. I attached a screenshot to this post which shows what this should look like.

Then click and drag the schema name you want into the playpen area to the right, and the schema tables and relationships should appear.

If this doesn't work for you, please try to provide step-by-step detail on what exactly you were trying to do, and what messages appeared on the Architect.

You can also consult the User Guide for the Power*Architect.

Looks like the way the relationships are being laid are change in the print preview and print output.

I posted a new bug for it on Bugzilla (Bug #1327):
http://trillian.sqlpower.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1327
The Power*Architect was redesigned so that it can now open up multiple projects in separate windows. However, it will always open up a new window, even if your current project is a blank new project.

We eventually want to make it so that it will either close the empty project's window, or that it will open up in the empty project's window.

This issue is currently in Bugzilla, as Bug# 1318

http://trillian.sqlpower.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1318

-Jeff
As long as you're not running the Power*Architect while you're doing the new installation, it should be OK.

Of course, let us know if that appears to be not the case. ;)

Jeff
You can try reproducing the issue in the latest nightly build of the Power*Architect here

http://nightlybuild.sqlpower.ca/architect/0.9.7-20070724/

It may not solve the saving problem, but if you do happen reproduce it, it should allow you to get a more detailed message about the error, which you can post on the forum.

For reference, you can see the actual Bugzilla report here:

http://trillian.sqlpower.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1321
Hi Prodoc,

We've looked over the temporary file, but it cuts off before we could get any definite clues of what happened.

Were you ever able to save this particular project or any other project successfully?
